Getting A Good Vehicle Deal At Auction
Being in the market for a used car means looking into car auctions as well. Car auctions can get you great deals, but they can also be intimidating. So what is the best way to get into a car auction and get a great deal on a used car?
Car auctions – the basics
At the very core, a car auction is the same as a normal auction. A vehicle is offered to bidders, and the highest bidder gets the car. There are usually no implied or written warranties on vehicles sold at auction. Most often, you’ll find cars in one of three categories at auction. Private owners or dealerships can offer their cars on auction websites. Any surplus vehicles – from federal and state agencies – are usually offered for sale. Third are impound or repo cars — vehicles that have been impounded or repossessed and are being sold to pay off the creditors. Car auctions are available both online or in person.
In-person car auctions
In-person car auctions have many benefits over other types. An hour or so before the auction begins, you can take a very close look at the car you might be buying during the “viewing” time. If you want to go to an auction, keep a close eye on newspaper listings or Craigslist. Register for a bidding number at the auction, and make sure you have vehicle financing ready to go. If you want to, have a mobile AutoCheck or Carfax app on your phone can give you a quick report on the car. If you bid on and win a car, you will be expected to pay for it right then and there. Usually, you’ll get a copy of the title when you pay for the car, and licensing will be your responsibility. You’ll also have between 2 and 24 hours to take the car away from the auction site.
Car auctions online
Online auctions have some things that make them similar to in-person auctions. You will have to register to bid on the vehicle, and it will still usually be sold in as-is condition. However, online car auctions do not usually give you the chance to check out the vehicle before you buy it. You can ask the seller specific questions on many auction sites. Many states and government agencies have chosen to start auctioning their surplus vehicles online as well. You cannot really check out the vehicle on auction sites like this. You can still get good deals, but beware of any tip-off words such as “needs work” or “mechanics’ special.”

For business owners or if you just need a good second vehicle for personal use, this is a great time to find a deal on used Chevy trucks. Due to many government and dealer incentives, many people have been trading in their larger used trucks. Obviously a good number of owners have traded in their used Chevy trucks which is good for savvy shoppers.
The media’s negative publicity concerning the auto industry and rising fuel costs have motivated a lot people to buy new cars. This is actually good news for those of us looking for used Chevy Trucks for sale. While dealerships tend to give only rock bottom trade-in values for Chevy trucks at this time, they haven’t seen fit to lower their selling prices very much since they really want to sell their new cars. Of course this is how the dealerships make their money. There is little doubt that new vehicles might get better gas mileage, an experienced shopper will consider their actual needs and total expenses relating to use. If you can buy a dependable Chevy truck that has a history of a long useful life, you could save money over the lifetime of the vehicle when compared to buying a new vehicle. Of course if you have a small business, nothing can replace the versatility of owning a dependable truck.
It is interesting that, many local dealerships now sell their used Chevy trucks by online car auctions. Don’t be mislead by the term “auction” in this case. These car auctions are a retail tool to sell off their inventory at prices lower then you would find on most dealer car lots. Some might hesitate at buying a vehicle online. But consider the seller has to be completely honest in what he publishes. He has to include good photos, give total disclosure of any problems and provide full warranty or policy statements. In many cases, this is more then you receive when you deal with a live salesman at a dealership. The online auction regulates their operation so if a seller wants to maintain a good online reputation, he has to satisfy his customers. That is more then can be said for many local car dealerships today.
So it makes good sense to consider a Chevy truck if you have the need for a larger vehicle. Their reputation promises a long life of service at a bargain price if you know where to shop.
