General Motors Look For New Ways To Sell Cars
Earlier this year General Motors, owner of Chevrolet, files for bankruptcy. However, they have now sorted themselves out, and from July, they have stopped receiving bankruptcy protection from the government.
Now that they have moved on, they are trying some new methods for being in more car sales. Two new methods are being looked at by the company in an attempt to sell more of their cars. The first method, which they had tried and pulled out of in 2008, is car leasing. They have put together plans to once again return to the contract hire market this year. As it’s coming directly from General Motors, they might be able to offer some very cheap van leasing offers as they can sell straight from the manufacturer lines, undercutting many other companies.
The second method that’s being trialled is a deal with the American online auction website eBay. Starting yesterday, General Motors started selling new Buick, Chevrolet, GMC and Pontiac cars via the online auction website within the California area.
The listings will be run up until September on a trial basis, but with the almost all of the Californian GM dealers already signed up, the system is already becoming popular. Customers using the system will be allowed to either pay the listed price for the car, or they are allowed to haggle for a new price. Once the customer buys the car, they then have to travel to their closest registered dealer to pick up their new vehicle.
If General Motors and eBay find the system to be profitable, they might introduce it to every state in America. Also as other companies look to General Motors to see if the methods are successful, we might see other companies offering their own cars for lease such as a Mazda lease.
